[In-Person] Stunning Success or Spectacular Failure? Brand Stories from the TrenchesMonday, June 19, 12:00-14:00 @Tokyo American Club
Event Overview
We all want to curate and nurture our brand. Our brand is what we are known for. It differentiates us in a crowded marketplace and sets us apart in the minds of our customers. Industry giants allocate millions, or even billions, of dollars to branding initiatives. But what is the real secret to brand success … or failure?
To find out, join us as Dieter Haberl, CEO of Excellence At Work K.K. and former Japan CEO of Reebok, Lacoste, Toys “R” Us, and Furla, shares insightful and entertaining stories of stunning brand successes and spectacular brand failures—and what was really behind those outcomes.About the Speaker
Austrian born Dieter Haberl’s international career started with college and graduate school in the United States and took off with Coca-Cola in the trenches of post-Cold War, freshly reunited Germany. In 1997, he transferred to Japan with Coke, where he managed the reengineering of the vending business, bringing together the system’s 17 independently owned bottlers in the creation of a strategic national, bottler-owned vending sales company. In 2004, Haberl got his first taste of retail as vice president and chief financial officer at The Gap, where he was instrumental in the launch of Banana Republic.
Haberl’s first role as president was with Reebok Japan (inside the adidas Group), where he managed a dramatic restructuring and rebuilding process that achieved unprecedented brand success. Later, as CEO of Lacoste Japan, he rebuilt both the organization and the brand, putting the venerable crocodile back on the map.
At Toys “R” Us Japan, the sudden demise of the parent company provided plenty of opportunity to double down on both employer and customer branding. Affordable luxury Italian leather goods company Furla provided yet another chance to put an established brand back on track by engaging the entire team in a comprehensive rebranding effort.
Today, Dieter is CEO of recruiting and development company EAW, where he applies his energy and hard-won wisdom to supporting companies large and small as they work to achieve their goals by focusing on their most valuable asset—their people.Event Details
