Job Description
Title: Store Development and Consumer Experience Leader
Location: Tokyo
Reports to: CEO
General Summary:
The position is responsible for taking strategic initiative in leading the consumer experience (visual, lay out etc ..) and store development for Japan (including supporting Korea and Australia) and for acquired companies.
This individual will oversee the overall store development team’s operation – property development, store design & construction, facility management, visual merchandising including all necessary research, analysis, negotiations, and schedule planning to the Company’s strategy. Lead the search and opening of new stores all over Japan, in department stores , shopping malls , and street level boutiques
- Optimize in-store layout and leverage point-of-sale technologies
- Transparent and consistent visual approach
- Lead the development of new store designs that encourage self-treat occasions and casual gifting for various demographics of consumers, including young people
- Analyze store metrics (traffic, conversion, comp sales) in relation to store lay out and visual merchandising to improve consumer experience and sales .
Principal Accountabilities:
Based on in-depth analysis and knowledge of the Company’s brand philosophy and strategy:
- Give direction to store development strategy for new and existing stores
- Assess candidate and potential location
- Evaluate business plan based on P&L assumption for profitability and sustainability
- Give direction on lease renewal tactics
- Supervise store design
- Give direction to layout plan
- Give direction on facility management planning – yearly and mid-term and facility renewal with improvement method
- Give direction to visual image draft and store display plan in case
- Instruct the role by each channel and each category
- Lead the team for creative mindset work and subjective proposing attitude to stakeholders with profit consciousness
- Cascade the Company direction effectively to each section by each role
- Join external / internal negotiation with dept, developer and vendor / internal other department in case to solve tough condition
- Arrange and facilitate effective co-working for cross functional project
- Give direction of initial budgeting and reallocation by plan change
- Assess vendor estimate on its adequacy
- Connect all store development sections to create synergetic momentum
- Make annual operation plan and the budgeting
- Support Korea and Australia on store design and visual merchandising with each section if requested
Job Specifications
(Knowledge, skills and abilities normally required for competent performance in the job)
- Store development OR consumer retail experience (coming from marketing and retail background)
- Store development in and preferably in design & construction
- Focus on consumer journey, comp growth, competitors’ analysis
- Experience of retail experience preferred
- Lead cross functional teams
- Consumer focus
- Excellent negotiation and problem resolution skills, both internally and externally
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy and working under tight deadlines
- High-energy, results oriented team player with superior communication skills
- Desire to work in a fast-paced and results-oriented operating environment
- Business fluency in Japanese and English
